About Dragonflight Designs
Dragonflight Designs came about through my interest in alternative jewellery, history and crafts. The items I stock are either hand made by myself or, if bought in from elsewhere, appeal to my tastes or interests. I stock jewellery from a mix of influences because I, like everyone, enjoy variety.
Most of the items I make will be unique, I won’t make another item the same. The items that I do repeat will naturally have variations due to being handmade and depending on what components I have available. I rarely buy components in bulk because I don’t want to produce items in bulk. I like to use unexpected items in my jewellery and to produce pieces that are unusual. I also use re-claimed or recycled jewellery, sometimes that unloved or broken piece has the potential to be part of something new and beautiful. Naturally, all earwires or hooks are new.
I am currently working on developing a stock of historically inspired jewellery, particularly medieval belts, as part of my interest in history. I enjoy wearing clothing based on medieval designs and have some beautiful dresses from makers such as Dornbluth in Germany and My Armstreet in the Ukraine, but I wanted jewellery to go with them so decided to begin making some. These pieces will mostly use re-claimed brooches, other re-cycled jewellery or modern pewter designs as the focus.
I get inspiration from many places. The beautiful plants in my garden. The water, earth and sky around me. Ancient jewellery, symbols and crafts. Historical clothing and its modern alternatives (the Dark Angel is a great example). Beautifully made weapons (one from Raven Armoury is on my wish list). Attending re-enactment displays (whenever I get the time). The feel of the materials in my hands. Then I put my time and inspiration into jewellery that I hope you will love, that inspires you and that feels good to wear.
